Here pops another hermit. sorry for not contributing to our big cookie-land for so long. Just got *glared* by May last night and see how powerful her glare was.

so here i am ;) been reading the posts/tags lately but havent exactly been catching up. for example, i havent confirmed who that hermit no. 1 is. nvm.

reasons for me not blogging for qte long:

1. I heard there were some problems with our previous account, before the-technical-one got us a google account. Me, being a technical-stuff-idiot (and lazy), thought the method to log in and our password/username have changed (forgot what May mentioned in email). Hence, i havent gotten down to logging in until today.

2. not in the mood to blog. i feel rather like a hermit too. been fretting, thinking, fantasizing, sleeping irregularly, worrying, considering, pondering over matters (halt..before i sound like MARY turner). sometimes i dont feel like talking about some things, sometimes i dont seem to have the energy/mood to do other things. sorry.

anyway here are some random updates on ...me!? :)
1. I FiNaLLy got myself a new wallet! and mum nagged at me for not getting it that day when I could have gotten a 40% discount. but it's ok, really time to change my wallet.

2. I found out that lydia got a new pair of specs-black & red but her degree didnt increase. She just wanted to change her specs =P

3. I slept at almost 5 plus am a few days back and woke up at 2pm.

4. My favourite song for today is "Fill my little world"-by The Feeling. I like it's catchy tune and first line of the lyrics, which sounds rather dreamy/hopeful to me.

"I had a dream we went away, left this city for a day...." then i dont know about the rest of the lyrics, it's ok..dont bother =) get me to send you the song if u want.

5. I am going to have a simple meal of bread and porridge for dinner tonight. weird combination huh.

yipeee, that's about it. happy sunday evening to all cookies and regular taggers.
(and before i forget!!) HaPpY BiRtHdAy To OuR BlOg! (i honestly didnt know it has one :x)

love, maryann.

i feel like a hermit.

this isn't the first time, but it's the first time it's self-imposed. kind of. been too lazy to ask people out, organise outings, activities, meet-ups, for fear of the inevitable last-minute pang sehs and the ubiquitous reason, 'sorry can't working.' what kind of a lazy bum am i anyway. sigh.

All that talk about food...
Yiiwen should show some appreciation for her friends too. (hint hint)

Anyway, I'm here to blog about food too! After dying for one week eating terrible food at the AH canteen, we discovered Alexandra Market.
Isn't it a surprise -- a clean freak like me actually looking forward to going to the hawker centre every single day. I guess the main draw is the wide variety of good (if not decent) food, not to mention it's inexpensive, especially for people like me who are not exactly earning.
It's the only part of the day that I actually look forward to. Not that the attachment is horrible and all, but most of the time it's just tiring having to stand for such long periods of time.
Compared to the food served by the cafeteria, this is a slice of heaven, even if it means we've got to take the long walk out and brave the heat and humidity in there. (:
As of now have tried the braised duck rice, roasted duck rice, roasted chicken rice and chee cheong fun porridge. I'm planning to give the bah kut teh a go tomorrow. (:

NUS open house today was more informative than I thought it'd be. Although I still can't decide what my other choices should be.
I suppose I sound silly if I say I don't think I'd want to study law because the food at the Bukit Timah campus isn't too great. Satisfying the tummy is very important.
Are we really too young to know what we want in life?

hello dears, i hope things went ok for most on fri, and if they didn't, i hope you're ok by now or will be ok soon. (i'm a phone call/sms away.)

Anyway, im here to fulfil my promise to the techie. on to chewy choc cookies! attempted them last sunday, and boy was it a near disaster.

i didn't have icing sugar, so i put white sugar in the blender. It worked, but i didn't put it in to blend long enough, so when i tried to sift the cocoa powder, sugar and flour mixture later i ended up with a whole lot of sugar in the sieve.

thanks to poor planning skills i ran out of walnuts and greaseproof paper, so my mum drove us to the nearest phoon huat to replenish supplies. baking resumed only after lunch, when i felt less stressed out about producing yummy cookies for seven teachers.

the next scare was when, against my better judgement, i whisked the egg whites for too long and they started to stiffen, like when you want to make a chiffon cake. the recipe said 'frothy', which meant that my whites should be liquid, not semi solid. went ahead anyway.

ironically, the following mistake was not beating my cookies mixture (aft adding the sugar mixture to the whites) long enough. so it didn't thicken as it should, and bcos of that spread really thin on my greaseproof paper.

the final challenge was when the paper stuck to the cookies aft coming out of the oven. oil is a really bad lubricant cos it's not oily enough. margarine and butter are far better. and since my cookies contained not one drop of oil, fat, margarine or butter, they took it unto themselves to absorb all the oil i spread on the paper and then glued themselves to it really well. younger sis promptly claimed the maiden tray of cookies as hers, cos 'you can't expect your teachers to eat paper right?' she struggled with it, and finally held up the paper with the cookies stuck on it, glowering and scolding, 'you think funny is it?' i burst into long and loud laughter at that one.

that was the extent of cookie madness in my kitchen on sunday afternoon. luckily i managed to churn out 40 acceptable cookies, half with walnuts and half with white chocolate. wrapped them in pretty blue paper and brought them to rjc on monday. they were appreciated! (:

updates: quit my newsroom internship on wed, and was pleasantly surprised with a phone call offering a job as a relief teacher in rjc on thur. will be taking 1 gp class, starting term 2.
