Friday afternoon, evening, Saturday morning and early afternoon were magical.

thirty of us from Serra went to cirque du soleil yesterday afternoon to catch Kooza, and the performers were amazing. of the crazy tightrope, acrobatics, death wheel and clown acts, my favourite was the contortionist dance by three super flexible girls. their grace and strength were amazing - it makes me wonder how two seemingly opposite elements such as these can be combined to produce such a beautiful dance. dressing up for the occasion was part of the fun too. i wore my black toga top, brown knee length skirt, brown leafy belt, earrings, heels and some light makeup. we'd decided beforehand that we'd look classy as a dorm. and i think i'm getting better at walking around in heels. (:

after cirque ended at 6.30pm, we got back to Stern dining just in time for dinner. then i went with Aubrey to the Axe and Palm for crepes. we shared a peach and berry and a banana nutella. the banana won hands down cos the peaches were underripe and slightly too hard. it's a pity, though, that they don't make the crepes fresh. they use readymade ones. the best thing, though, was talking to Aubrey. she's a senior and the first floor RA, so i don't normally see her much. i know i'm talking to someone i can get along well with when the person makes me feel chatty, since i'm not normally that. we compared nerd stories and established "library cred" with each other apropos of our bookish haircuts and huge round spectacles in the past, and agreed that "once a nerd, always a nerd." we even had photos to prove it. nerd-dom rocks! (:

post-dessert, i borrowed "the matrix" from erika and watched it on Jae's big projector with him and Dai, since the paper i'm working on for PWR is about Morpheus. Dai is such a funny guy. when we got to the scene where Smith puts a bug in Neo's body through his belly button. he kept complaining that it was a horrible scene and that his belly button felt funny after watching it. and when we disagreed over the appropriateness of using "kan feng shi duo" to describe Jae, he said, "i know chinese!" to end the argument. Jae almost died laughing - cos Dai's from China.

this morning, my NZ uncle came to visit for a short while since he's working in San Jose. we took a walk to lake Lag, which is rather pretty now since it has been filled in after the rainy winter. there's also a lot more green and the ground sloping into the lake is covered with grass instead of soil. we went on to bask in the sunshine at the oval, chat, drove to Stanford Shopping Centre, and then he had to leave to work. being a computer engineer is a stressful job. this is the second consecutive weekend that he's had to work.

brunch was a quick and lousy affair at Roble dining. i swear that the standard of food has been steadily going downhill since last quarter. i met Ming and his roommate Josh at brunch, and since they were going to Safeway, i decided to hitch a ride to buy baking ingredients and some cereal. i enjoyed myself thoroughly arguing with Josh about Chinese / Asian wives, women drivers, debating, seatbelts, the advantages of a shopping cart over a basket, small Nalgenes vs. big ones, etc etc. i think we almost drove Ming mad in the car cos he was in the middle.
